The High Court of Gujarat, in view of the guidelines issued by the Hon'ble Supreme Court in the Case of Malik Mazhar Sultan & Anr. V/s. U.P. Public Service Commission & Ors. and as per the provisions prescribed under ‘The Gujarat State Judicial Service Rules, 2005’ (as amended from time to time) invites Online Applications from eligible candidates for filling up approximately 219 Regular Vacancies (existing & future), for selection, by way of Competitive Examinations, for the Cadre of Civil Judges in the Pay Scale of Rs. 27,700 – 770 – 33,090 – 930 – 40,530 – 1080 – 44,850 + Allowances as admissible under the Rules. The category wise breakup in respect of the Regular vacancies are as shown here in below:

4. Essential Qualifications :
(i) A prospective Candidate must possess a Degree in Law from a University recognized by law in India &
a) Will have to pass the vernacular (Gujarati) language proficiency test. [See instructions at Item No.5(I)(iv)] Provided that, those candidates who have cleared their secondary as well as higher secondary examination with subject of Gujarati (Higher Level at both stages), shall not be required to pass aforementioned examination.
b) must be practicing as an Advocate in Courts of Civil and / or Criminal Jurisdiction on the last date fixed for submission of Online Application. Candidates, who have passed the Degree in Law from the academic year 20092010 and onwards, must have also passed the All India Bar Examination, in order to be considered as eligible for being termed as a Practicing Advocate. OR
c) must be working in the Courts or other Allied Departments on the last date fixed for receipt of applications
(ii) Must possess Certificate(s), certifying to be possessing Basic Knowledge of Computer Application / Operation, issued by a Government Institute or other recognized Institute, as set out by the Government of Gujarat in General Administrative Department Resolution No. PRCH1020051532K, dated 30/09/2006 and Resolution No.CRR102007120320G.5 dated 13/08/2008.
Age:
As on the last date fixed for submission of Online Application, a candidate belonging to General Category must not have crossed the age of 35 years and others i.e. in case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes or Socially & Educationally Backward Classes, declared as such by the Government of Gujarat, as well as Disabled Persons (PH) & ExServicemen, must not have completed 38 years of age.
Application Fee:
The candidates belonging to General Category are required to pay Examination Fees of Rs.1000/ plus Bank Charges whereas Rs.500/ plus Bank Charges are required to be paid by the Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, Socially & Educationally Backward Classes, Physically Disabled Persons (PH) and ExServicemen Categories via “Print Application / Pay Fee” Button through SBI ePay, provided on the webpage of HCOJAS Portal – https://hcojas.gujarat.gov.in.
Document Required:
At present, candidates are not required to send copies of any Testimonials/Documents to the High Court. They shall, however be required to produce ‘Print out’ of the duly filledin Online Application alongwith the following Original Testimonials / Certificates as also One ‘Set’ of selfattested Photocopies thereof, and freshly taken colour passport size photograph, at the time of Vivavoce Test, to be conducted by the High Court :
(i) Printout of ‘the duly filledin ‘Online Application’ alongwith original epayment receipt / challan.
(ii) School Leaving Certificate or Birth Certificate issued under Birth & Death Registration Act.
(iii) Educational qualifications Marksheets and Certificates i.e. of SSCE, HSCE, Final Year of Graduation, Post Graduation, LL.B.(all years), Post Graduation in Law, etc. as may be applicable.
(iv) Sanad issued by the Bar Council of the State.
(v) Certificate of Practice issued by Bar Council of India (AIBE), if applicable.
(vi) Certificates indicating to be possessing ‘Basic Knowledge of Computer Application / Operation’ issued by Government or other recognized Institute, as set out by Government of Gujarat, in General Administrative Department Resolution No. PRCH1020051532K, dated 30/09/2006 and Resolution No. CRR102007120320G.5 dated 13/08/2008.
(vii) Certificate/s issued by the Competent Authority of the State of Gujarat, in respect of candidates belonging to Reserved Category (SC/ST/SEBC), as may be applicable, and also ‘Noncreamy layer Certificate’ of the current financial year, in case of those belonging to Socially & Educationally Backward Classes.
(viii) In case of Disabled Persons (PH) Candidate (a) a Certificate from a Competent Authority to the effect that he/she has a disability of not less than 40% and (b) a Certificate from the Standing Medical Board at Ahmedabad, to the effect that he/she would be able to perform the duties of the post in question.
(ix) Government Gazette, showing change in name / surname etc, if any.
(x) Certificates given not more than 06 months prior to the date fixed for Vivavoce (Oral Interview) Test, from two Respectable Persons of Professionals/Dignitaries like Doctors, Engineers, M.L.A., M.Ps. with seal and signature unconnected with his college or university and not related to him, testifying to his/her character (Original).
(xi) Practice/Experience Certificate in original

Selection Procedure :
Preparation of SelectList : Selection of candidates shall be made on the basis of aggregate marks obtained by the candidates in the Main Written Examination & Vivavoce Test.
(I) The Preliminary Examination (Elimination Test) : (Tentatively scheduled on 15/05/2022) The Candidates would be able to download their ‘eCalllettercumAdmission Slip’ from the HCOJAS Portal – https://hcojas.gujarat.gov.in from 09/05/2022.
(i) The Preliminary Examination (Elimination Test) shall be of 100 Marks, the duration whereof will be 02 Hours, consisting of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) each of 01 Mark with Negative Marking of 0.33 Mark for each Wrong / Multiple Answer
(ii) The language of the Question Paper of Preliminary Examination will be English Only.
(iii) Preliminary Examination Paper (Objective Type) shall be assessed / evaluated by the Computer, as per entries made on OMR Sheet. As the evaluation is being done on the Computer by Scanning, there is no human intervention and hence, queries relating to rechecking of the OMR Sheets, subsequent to the Preliminary Examination, will not be entertained by the High Court.
(iv) In view of amended Rule7, viz. Clause (aa) of SubRule (2) of Rule7 of “The Gujarat State Judicial Service (Amendment) Rules, 2019”, Candidates who have not passed Secondary as well as Higher Secondary Examination with subject of Gujarati (Higher Level at both stages) are required to pass the vernacular (Gujarati) Language Proficiency Test as prescribed below and to secure minimum 40% Marks for being eligible for being called for Main Written Examination.
(v) To become eligible for Main Written Examination, the Candidate has to secure 50% or more Marks in the Preliminary Examination (Elimination Test) and must have also passed their Secondary and Higher Secondary Examinations with subject of Gujarati (Higher Level at both stages); has to secure 50% or more Marks in the Preliminary Examination (Elimination Test) and 40% or more Marks in the Test of Gujarati Language, in case they have not passed their Secondary and Higher Secondary Examinations with subject of Gujarati (Higher Level at both stages).
(vi) The Marks obtained by the Candidates in the Preliminary Examination (Elimination Test) as well as the Test of Gujarati Language shall not be taken into consideration for preparing the Final Merit of the candidates.
(II) (A) Main Written Examination (Descriptive Type) : (Tentatively scheduled for 17/07/2022) The Candidates would be able to download their ‘eCalllettercumAdmission Slip’ from the HCOJAS Portal – https://hcojas.gujarat.gov.in from 11/07/2022.
(II) (B) Vivavoce (Oral Interview) Test : (Tentatively scheduled on 09/10/2022)
How to Apply :

2. Closing date for submission of Online Application 02/03/2022 (23:59 Hrs.)
(I) All eligible Candidates should apply 'Online', through the link provided on High Court Websites https://www.gujarathighcourt.nic.in and https://hcojas.gujarat.gov.in, in the prescribed format.
(II) Candidates should have his/her own ‘registered’ Mobile Number and the same should be kept active during the entire recruitment process, as ‘SMS’ alerts for the Tests, are also likely to be notified on the Mobile Number, so registered in the ‘Online’ Application.
(III) The Candidates shall fill up the required data in the ‘Online’ Application in accordance with the ‘Instructions’. Applications which are not in accordance with the ‘Instructions’, shall be summarily rejected.
(IV) Take a note that the above is the general procedure for applying ‘Online’. No other mode of Application or incomplete Application will be accepted and in such case, the application will be rejected outright.
